Background
iSTYLE, Hungary’s Apple Premium Partner, has been working with OANDER for over a decade. When migrating from Magento 2 to Shopify Plus, one requirement was non-negotiable: maintaining the familiar OTP Online Retail Loan payment option.
The solution had been running reliably for years on Magento, so ensuring a seamless transition — ideally with an even better customer experience — was a key success factor. Technically, the challenge was significant: integrating an external financial institution into the Shopify Plus checkout ecosystem.
Solution
Loan integration for Shopify – Shopify payments extension built on Gadget.dev
OANDER is among the few development teams in the region with hands-on experience in building Shopify Payments Extensions — a highly regulated integration type that connects directly into the native Shopify checkout. For this project, we chose Gadget.dev, a backend-as-a-service platform optimised for Shopify application development.

A checkout experience customers already know
We designed the OTP Online Retail Loan as a clear, dedicated payment option embedded directly into the Shopify checkout:
- Checkout – The payment method appears alongside standard options, in a familiar way
- OTP Platform – Smooth redirect with prefilled customer data
- Order Status – After completion, customers can track the loan request status within their account

A key enhancement of the new solution is real-time status visibility inside the Shopify customer account. Using the Customer Account UI Extension, loan status updates appear as part of the native account interface.
Because loan approval can involve multiple steps, this clear communication increases trust and reduces customer service workload.
The Gadget.dev backend periodically queries OTP systems, ensuring status changes are reflected automatically without manual intervention.
Results
A critical payment method preserved during the platform switch
Following the migration to Shopify Plus, iSTYLE retained one of its most important conversion-driving payment options. The customer experience remained familiar — while behind the scenes an entirely new technology stack was rolled out.
The implemented Shopify Payments Extension meets all platform compliance requirements and demands specialised expertise and strict QA.
