A delegation of global tech leaders arrived at the Omnichannel Hub

3 min read

At the Omnichannel Hub event, a milestone was set in Hungarian e-commerce: for the first time ever, a leading global e-commerce platform provider arrived in Hungary with its full enterprise team. Shopify’s visit to Budapest is a clear indication that Hungary has become a strategic focus for the global platform. According to BuiltWith data, more than 5,600 Hungarian webshops already use Shopify, and nearly 10,000 stores run on a Hungarian-forint-based setup. The company’s accelerating expansion in the country may reshape the domestic e-commerce technology landscape even in the near future.

For the first time in Hungary, Shopify participated with a full enterprise-level partner team at the Omnichannel Hub, organised by Oander Technologies and Growww Digital. Over the course of three days, the company’s development and strategic teams met with leading Hungarian retailers, held in-depth professional discussions, and explored the key questions defining the next decade of AI-first commerce.

The presence of the delegation fits well with the trend that Shopify’s expansion in the Hungarian market is accelerating at a remarkable pace: more and more companies are choosing modern, globally scalable and AI-compatible technology solutions that may elevate the platform into the top tier of domestic systems in the near future.

“Oander has been active on the Hungarian market for 17 years, and this was the first time that a global enterprise of this scale devoted such significant attention to the local e-commerce ecosystem. This is a real breakthrough. We are especially pleased to play an active role in this historic milestone for commerce,” – said László Ocskay, owner of Oander Technologies.

Omnichannel Hub event

The highlight of Shopify’s visit was the Omnichannel Hub event, which this year focused on the maturity of multichannel operations, the effectiveness of digital marketing, the opportunities of entering export markets, and the emerging domain of AI-driven agentic commerce. Several leading Hungarian retailers and experts shared their experiences at the event.

Among the speakers was Mátyás Radó, omnichannel consultant, who demonstrated how a company’s multichannel readiness is linked to its business performance. In his presentation, he highlighted that companies operating more advanced systems grow faster and operate more efficiently.

László Szabó, Managing Partner at Growww Digital, examined the connection between omnichannel operations and export. Using fresh data, he showed that export-oriented e-commerce companies achieve significantly higher revenue growth compared to those focusing solely on the domestic market.

Dániel Petri (BioTechUSA, Head of eCommerce) presented the company’s omnichannel strategy, emphasizing the importance of aligning online and offline channels, and noting that in the age of AI, true loyalty depends not on couponing but on genuine customer care.

András Tar (iSTYLE, e-Commerce CEE Regional Manager) presented an instructive case study illustrating how easily omnichannel operations can become unbalanced when technology, organizational structures and local specifics are not aligned. iSTYLE integrates its systems using the kotta.io solution, creating a unified customer experience built on the balance between centralized control and local autonomy.

Dr. Roman Zenner (Shopify, E-Commerce Expert) explored the intersections of generative AI technologies, AI agents and e-commerce. He demonstrated how these solutions are transforming the customer experience worldwide and what opportunities they may open for merchants in the near future. He emphasized that Shopify is continuously developing AI-based innovations that could shape the future of online commerce in the long term.

Why it matters

Shopify’s visit to Hungary made it clear that the local commerce ecosystem is no longer merely following but actively shaping international trends. The openness of Hungarian market players to technological innovation, rapidly developing digital capabilities and increasing export orientation are making the Hungarian market an increasingly attractive target for global platforms. Shopify’s growing activity in Europe, and now in Hungary as well, shows that the company is likely to become a defining player in the region’s modern, AI-driven commerce landscape in the coming years. This visit was therefore not just a professional event, but an important sign of a new era opening for Hungarian e-commerce.
